Parents/Guardians have the option of either working two shifts at The Patio or buying out of their shifts.
For the benefit of parents/guardians who have a conflict and can’t trade their assigned shift(s), the league maintains a list of responsible young adults who are trained to handle the duties of working at The Patio. Parents or guardians of players should not hire someone to cover their shift or expect a child to work in place of an adult if they are not on the list of Qualified Workers. The list is available or in person anytime The Patio is open.
PONY has two roles within the Patio - The Patio Crew Leads and The Patio Crew Workers. The Patio Crew Leads and The Patio Crew Workers are independent contractors, similar to being hired by someone to mow their lawn or provide babysitting services.Shifts are either assigned by The Patio Committee or acquired directly from parents who do not buyout of their volunteer obligation. Responsibilities include:
cashier
soda fountain
food prep
cleaning of the restrooms
keeping The Patio Area clean and maintained
other duties required for the operation of The Patio
The process of hiring new Patio Crew members and Leads for the upcoming season begins in January each year. Preferred applicants are 16 years old with reliable transportation. Depending on the candidate pool, 15 year olds will be considered, but will be required to obtain a work permit. To be considered for these opportunities, complete the online application by January 31.
Training will be provided in March prior to the travel season beginning April 1.
